My friend Michael Popek owns a used bookstore and runs a site called Forgotten Bookmarks, devoted to the things he finds in old books. The site did so well Michael published a book of the same name. (Check out this Q&A we did in 2011 and this profile of Michael by Shannon Firth.)

I thought about him when I recently found a paperback copy of I Always Wanted to Be Somebody by Althea Gibson (1958, paperback, 1965), edited by former Sport magazine editor Ed Fitzgerald.

What should I find wedged in the book but a postcard written in 1992 by Robert Lipsyte.

Go figure that.
